Everyone Can Make a Difference!

In the United States, there are over 542,000 children in foster care. Georgia has 16,000 children in foster care and 4,000 foster homes. Muscogee County alone has more than 300 children in foster care and has approximately 60 foster homes. Since Our House opened its doors in July of 2002, approximately 250 children each year have been cared for by compassionate and highly skilled professionals.

Add all of these numbers together and it means one huge commitment to developing and supporting com-prehensive and on-going community programs. These programs help to ensure the prevention and inter- vention of child abuse and neglect. Please join us in helping to make sure that every child in need has a safe place to live, work, and grow.

Every child deserves a chance in life. Our House is providing children that chance. The responsibility for the well-being of children rests with all of us. Each child we fail is a future adult unable to contribute to the success of our community.

Our House News

Columbus for Kids, Inc. as the founding organization of Our House, launched the $5,500,000 fund raising campaign in June, 2002, enlisting support across public, private and philanthropic sectors. As of August , 2004, Columbus for Kids has received gifts and pledges of $4.6 million toward the $5.6 million goal. Columbus for Kids Board of Directors has set an aggressive goal to raise the funds to complete the purchase of the 24 acre campus and building by December of 2005, at which time ownership of Our House will be given to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth. The completion of the capital campaign to fund this remarkable center and adjoining property within the time frame will enable the expansion of the Our House campus to include additional “cottages” for 16-18 youth to transition to independent living.
